Week 1 QB Cheatsheet: Fantasy Football Advice

By Matt Schauf
Just a couple of years ago, a Bengals-Patriots opener in New England would’ve looked like a laugher. Survivor-pool folks would have jumped on the Pats as if they were a bounce house. (Yeah, I have young children.)
Now, though, this is a game that could easily go either way, and the Bengals are the squad coming in with the much stronger-looking defense. It still doesn’t get much better than a start receiver duo of Randy Moss and Wes Welker, but Leon Hall and Johnathan Joseph give Cincinnati a big advantage on New England’s tandem of first-time corner starters, Darius Butler and rookie Devin McCourty. Those guys are obviously talented or they woulndn’t be starting, but which defensive coordinator do you think is sleeping better right now? (You know, for the 3.5 hours that NFL coaches sleep in-season.)
I like the outlook for Carson Palmer all season, and I think more will

Donovan McNabb,

QB (Redskins) - 9/10/2010 3:28:52 PM

McNabb (left ankle) is listed as questionable for Sunday night against Dallas.
Insight: McNabb has practiced fully all week, so despite probably not being 100% he is expected to start against the Cowboys. (RapidDraft.com)

Josh Freeman,

QB (Buccaneers) - 9/10/2010 3:26:33 PM

Freeman (right thumb) is listed as probable for Sunday against Cleveland.
Insight: Freeman will start against the Browns, barring something unforeseen. (RapidDraft.com)

Chris Wells,

RB (Cardinals) - 9/10/2010 3:19:13 PM

Darren Urban of AZ Cardinals.com reports, via Twitter, that Cardinals' head coach Ken Whisenhunt said Wells (right knee) might contribute "a few plays" on Sunday against St. Louis.
Insight: Wells did not practice on Friday, and will be a game-time decision on Sunday. Tim Hightower will get the start in Wells' place, and should be inserted into fantasy lineups this week. (RapidDraft.com)

Kenny Phillips,

DB (Giants) - 9/10/2010 12:25:33 PM

Ralph Vacchiano of the NY Daily News reports, via Twitter, Giants' head coach Tom Coughlin said Phillips will be a full-time starter in Week 1 against Carolina.
Insight: Phillips could be a solid IDP play against a Carolina offense that will lean heavily on the run game. (RapidDraft.com)

Husain Abdullah,

DB (Vikings) - 9/10/2010 11:54:58 AM

1500 ESPN.com reports Vikings' head coach Brad Childress said Abdullah will be the team's starting strong safety going forward.
Insight: Abdullah played solidly in Thursday night's season opener against New Orleans, and his coverage skills can make him an asset to the Vikings' secondary. (RapidDraft.com)

Albert Young,

RB (Vikings) - 9/10/2010 11:51:33 AM

Young had two catches for 11 yards and three carries for just two yards against the Saints on Thursday night.
Insight: Once Toby Gerhart (knee) is healthy, Young's role is almost certain to be reduced. (RapidDraft.com)

Jeremy Shockey,

TE (Saints) - 9/10/2010 11:49:35 AM

Shockey had three receptions for 23 yards against Minnesota on Thursday night.
Insight: Shockey is not a strong fantasy option right now, but is rosterable as a TE2. (RapidDraft.com)
